Destruction as a Tool of Change
There are many times in these messages when I want to digress into the mind, the workings of the mind, the emotions, the behavioral, the visible because it is so easy to do. From time to time, I do bring these elements up but rarely. They can make good bridges from the old to the new.
There is very little known about the realm of consciousness and like all truths, will be greatly contested. The idea that something greater could be taking place is foreign to the human mind.
I believe with all of my heart that the future of humanity will be based on the rise of the individual, on you. Enough waste has been accumulated to know that there is no longer any reason to believe that politics, laws, capitalism, parenting, the majorities or the minorities, traditions, philosophies, religions, will solve the earth’s problems. The only way to create a new life is to create a new consciousness and until you do, there is one particular dynamic or force that will be a constant part of your life that defies your attempts to be happy, fulfilled, or even safe. That force, that dynamic, is the role that destruction plays in your life.
Max Theon was born in 1848 and died in 1927. He moved from London to France to Egypt and finally settled in Algeria. He was a much sought-after high-society guest and there is a fascinating history of this man who was known to be a master of occultism which is synonymous with mysticism and Kaballah, Kaballah being an ancient system of Jewish wisdom that focuses on the esoteric secrets of life. To be clear, occultism and spirituality are not the same things.
Now, Pascal Themanlys was a French poet and Kabbalist. His works on Jewish mysticism have been published in French, English, and Hebrew. His parents, Louis and Claire Themanlys were important disciples of Max Theon, and in charge of what was called the "Cosmic Movement" in France.
In an article, “Prophecy and Meditation in the Light of the Kabbalah,” He mentions the fact that Mirra-Alfassa was a student of Theon’s. Mirra Alfassa was Sri Aurobindo’s spiritual collaborator who would become known as the Mother. Aurobindo died in 1950. The Mother died in 1973. In the Mother’s work with Theon, he explained to her that in the 7 days of creation in Genesis, that each of the days represented enormous epochs of time, of how life on earth was destroyed six previous times and how it would be destroyed again.
In fact, the Maya Indians also believed that the earth had been destroyed numerous times. The Mother said, “We are in the seventh, the last. The world will find a new equilibrium—a superior equilibrium—not static, but progressive. In other words, there will be unlimited progress in equilibrium and harmony.”
And why has the world been erased six times…if it has? What is the objective, if there are one of these events?
Patrizia Noreilli Bachelet would pick up the work of the Mother before the Mother’s death by way of a deep, psychic connection that would account for the remainder of Thea’s work who passed away in 2016.
Bachelet was known by her students as Thea. Robert Wilkinson was a student of Thea’s and in time, served as her chief astrologer. Robert Wilkinson is my teacher and has served as a conduit for my growth. I met Robert for the first time in 1992 and our relationship would come around full force around 2011.
I learned in my early experiences in self-awareness training and development to distinguish the difference between the teacher and the message being taught. I have no interest in confirming or denying a person’s spiritual credentials because I watch how they live their life, how they respond to life because it is their actions that solidify for me their level of expertise and growth and who they really are. What a person does is more important than what a person says. I evaluate the significance of the teacher by the growth and knowledge I have gained, not who they say they are. If the guru is a real guru, then the real guru doesn’t care either whether you call them a guru.
I also automatically make the assumption that there are forces far beyond my level of awareness or understanding. However, this has not nor does it today keep me from pressing forward, doing the best I can with what I do not know, but what I have lived, what I have experienced, and figuring out a way to communicate to others in ways that can help the individual. I rail against the idea that this person is a guru and that you’re not.
In fact, if all is God, if all is the Divine, then so are you. And if that’s true then, how could you NOT be a guru? The realized human being has a graduate degree, the unrealized individual is in the 7th grade but they are still gurus…some just a little further along…and that matters to me…being a little further along compared to where I was. I understand that Truth can be expressed in a million different ways, just as unconsciousness can express itself in a million different ways. But show me 100 people, and I’ll show you 100 different versions of the truth.
So, what is the source of the truth? Where do you find it? There are estimated to be 4200 religions. This doesn’t include the possible tens of thousands of cults worldwide, networks, clubs, societies, etc. But, you see, none of this matters. Almost everything I have said in this message doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is you and you can evolve and prosper through greater knowledge of how you work from the inside out, not the outside in, the way you were taught.
The focus on the individual in our work assumes that when the individual makes enough progress, it is natural for the individual to care for others. What is the point in one individual becoming conscious, awakened, if the world is left behind? So, the way to heal the world is to heal yourself. So, let’s get back to that.
Inclined to accept only what it can see and measure, your mind glances over the preciousness of each moment, each breath, each kiss, each hello, as you go about the mechanical and predictable repetition of your daily life. The hidden movement that is always taking place is the experience of joy, always seeking in your outer world, the joy that you seek to experience inside of you.
Each and every day, you seek to master the forces and dynamics that lie inside of you. That secret movement is the movement of the unconscious to the conscious.
In the unconscious process of your efforts to experience your version of the truth, you are met throughout your life with the opposite, with setbacks, betrayal, loss of a million kinds, etc. For the sake of language, we’re going to refer to all of those forces as forces of destruction. Divorce, loss of financial security, loss of a job, a car accident, disease…all of these are forces of destruction.
The role of destruction is to create change. If you’re not going to change, then destruction will do it for you. If you’re not going to learn to love yourself, the forces of destruction will be happy to accommodate you. If you want to continue polluting the oceans and you’re not willing to stop, don’t worry, the forces of destruction will lend a helping hand. If you want to lie and cover up your financial greed and deceptive dealings, well, don’t worry, the universe is more than happy to speed the process up. And if you don’t believe this, ask your neighbor about it, because everyone’s been through it for one or more reasons.
Now, you can’t get corporate America to take responsibility for its role in the demise of Democracy, you can’t get billionaires to see their role in the fact that 75% of American households make less than $100,000.00 per year…and that’s a conservative percentage. You can’t get people who are invested in a lie to see the truth.
But maybe you can get you to see the truth and that’s all that matters. You.
Without question, this suggests a pre-established order or destiny or else it wouldn’t matter. If it didn’t matter, there would be no consequences but you’ll notice that there are consequences. So, what is that destiny?
Whatever it is you come up with, it better be good and it better strain your ability to envision the most promising, most noble, most loving idea of what is possible. Now, let’s just assume you came up with a pretty good idea…heaven on earth, the eradication of hunger and pain and suffering…and let’s say that that destiny is built into every human being on this earth and there’s nothing you can do to change the rules, but at the same time, the human beings don’t want to do that…they want to come up with their own version of destiny and that process becomes completely individualized and now you make up what you think that destiny is which is now about what you want and what you need, but everyone else is doing the same thing and the process of mutual elimination is on every street corner, I want to ask you something, how long do you think it’s going to take to piss off your boss?
And here comes destruction rolling in to adjust your GPS, your mind, so you can be forced to get back on track heading in the right direction. If you won’t do it, life will do it for you. Of course, life is not doing it to you although it can feel that way.
If you hit another person, and that person hits you back, you never experience the truth which is that it is you hitting yourself. You always experience the other person having hit you. Destruction is the tool of karma to help you adjust your path. You require destruction because destruction is the only thing you understand. You do not understand consciousness. You do not understand the truth of what is inside of you.
The opposite of truth is ignorance and destruction is a tool of ignorance. What is the relationship between the pandemic and the ignorance of the world? Great ignorance evokes great destruction.
But be the individual…what is the relationship between your depression and your ignorance, between your anxiety and ignorance, between your self-condemnation and your ignorance? The stories of individual lives being met with destruction, with lives being upended are too common to be told. And certainly, no matter your age, you can recount for the audience when that happened to you. But it’s OK. It doesn’t make you a bad person, it just means that you’re thrown out of the club. It just means that if you don’t choose to change, you will continue to learn through destruction.
It appears, of course, that bad things happen to good people. But neither you nor I am in a position to evaluate that. What you can evaluate is what you see in our own unfolding, our own becoming and your own experience has taught you about the role of destruction. You are a microcosmos of the macro cosmos and that’s why, when you’re living in the times of universal suffering and change like you are in the pandemic, the suffering is so catastrophic. All you have to do is multiply your ignorance by the ignorance of 7.5 billion other people and you can get an idea of the destructive power that is needed.
The reason I like the work of Aurobindo and the Mother so much is that in spite of the suffering that you must face in moving from being an unconscious human being to a conscious human being, the goal of love and atonement, of overcoming death and suffering is promised. It isn’t hope. It is truth and knowledge. It is joy, the very thing your inner soul is seeking. It is the reality of all things now and to come.
This is from Aurobindo’s poem, “In the Moonlight.”:
“The old shall perish; it shall pass away,
Expunged, annihilated, blotted out;
And all the iron bands that ring about
Man’s wide expansion shall at last give way.
Freedom, God, Immortality, the three
Are one and shall be realized at length;
Love, Wisdom, Justice, Joy and utter Strength
Gather into a pure felicity.
It comes at last, the day foreseen of old,
What John in Patmos saw, what Shelley dreamed,
Vision and vain imagination deemed,
The City of Delight, the Age of Gold.
The Iron Age is ended. Only now
The last fierce spasm of the dying past
Shall shake the nations, and when that has passed,
Earth washed of ills shall raise a fairer brow.
This is man’s progress; for the Iron Age
Prepares the Age of Gold.
What we call sin,
Is but man’s leavings as from deep within
The Pilot guides him in his pilgrimage.
He leaves behind the ill with strife and pain,
Because it clings and constantly returns,
And in the fire of suffering fiercely burns
More sweetness to deserve, more strength to gain.
He rises to the good with Titan wings:
And this the reason of his high unease,
Because he came from the infinities
To build immortally with mortal things;
The body with increasing soul to fill,
Extend Heaven’s claim upon the toiling earth
And climb from death to a diviner birth
Grasped and supported by immortal Will.”
Isn’t that beautiful? Isn’t that what you seek? But again, you can’t do anything about them, you can only change you and it is through this lived experience of you changing you that you will change others.
You can only change you and it is through this lived experience of you changing you that you will change others.
Because your satisfaction cannot be experienced through ignorance, change is required. Now, of course, satisfaction can be experienced at the sensory level for a short-term. But the play of unconscious thought creates unintended outcomes and there’s where the suffering comes in.
The force that you use to delay, prevent ignore the truth of your existence, whether you’re aware of it or not, that force is resistance. If you want to find out the level of a person’s resistance, just tell them that they are wrong and see what happens. There’s a lot of resistance inside of you and me and them. As the resistance builds, it creates a like-force of destruction that is necessary to change it. There is the individual resistance, the ignorance, but multiply that by 7.5 billion and you get a sense of the collective resistance.
I’ve said this many times, watch what a person does in public, and to understand what they do in private, multiply by 100. If you watch or listen to the news to some crazy person, that’s nothing compared to what they do in private.
In a response to a student’s letter about the war in Iraq, Patrizia Noreilli_bachelet, known as Thea, said,
“The significance of such an occurrence is that events in the world are no longer disconnected. The interconnection of things, while true and irrefutable ever and always, entered into a decidedly new phase of expression: an acceleration in time and containment of space. That is, a cosmos had come into being and all the events in the world on all levels formed a part of this cosmos. Things were DEFINED, put into their correct places. And it was rendered possible because this hidden ‘centre’ had emerged, – precisely the centre that was seen to be missing in Yeats’ apocalyptic vision.
So, the point is, the centre holds or began to hold on a global scale in the 1980s. This brought an entirely different equation about and the effects of this shift were discernible everywhere. However, on the surface the signals were confusing. To those ignorant of the process and its gains, while there were some obvious signs of a decisive shift there were others which seemed to indicate a worsening disintegration.
This was accompanied worldwide by a sense of helplessness, as if the world were caught in a vortex, slipping down into some ominous Unknown; events were set in motion which no one seemed capable of analyzing, much less of controlling. That phase of the process culminated at the very close of the decade of the 1980s. I repeat nonetheless that there is a method to the madness, a process. It entails a shift from the tactic of destruction to that of dissolution.
For a while, how long I cannot say just yet, the world must experience this painful situation. To all appearances it is no different than the old way. The casualties appear to be the same, the tolls no less severe and perhaps more than what we have experienced in past conflagrations and natural catastrophes. But this is not at all so. True, there continues to be war, death, bloodshed and human misery of all kinds. But what has to be understood is that this is the RESIDUE I referred to earlier. These are the trappings of the old order which is in the process of dying.”
What is being asked of humanity to let die in the chaos of the pandemic? More importantly, what are you being asked to give up your resistance to, to say goodbye to, to let go of?
The force of destruction is a disguised tool of creation and if you’re not going to take responsibility for your life or for the earth, then it will but you may not like it.
What endures, what cannot be destroyed is the truth of who you are, no matter what you do to yourself, there is a flame that resides within you that cannot be extinguished and you will persist until beginning your spiritual ascent into that knowledge and the truth is known.
And what have you heard a million times about the truth? It will set you free and free you will be.
